FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I convert my vehicle?

  • More control over your fuel supply
  • Saves money over the long run and has a pay back (diesel /biodiesel have no payback)
  • Reduces harmful impact on the environment
  • Great publicity for business owners
  • Reduces American dependency on oil

Can you really burn used vegetable oil as a fuel?

  • Yes and tests show it’s better for the environment
  • You will also have the same MPG, power and torque

How does a grease kit work on a diesel?

  • The kit comes with its own tank, filter, valves & hoses
  • You will need to start up and shut down on diesel/ biodiesel
  • The computer will switch you over when the radiator heat is up to temp (160-180*). The heat will reduce the viscosity of the oil, allowing you to safely burn waste cooking oil.

What is the difference between vegetable oil and biodiesel?

  • Biodiesel is chemically altered oil using methanol and lye.
  • Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) is simply used cooking oil that needs to be filtered down to 10 micron and dewatered so you can use it as a fuel.

Will I lose power or MPG on a grease kit?

  • NO, you will get the same horse power, torque & MPG on a grease car kit.
  • Some clients have noticed smoother acceleration and a quieter engine on waste cooking oil.

Will it damage my engine?

  • NO, as long as you are running a complete built grease car kit, and you are burning your filtered / dewatered waste cooking oil you will not have a problem. DO remember that if you are collecting and dewatering your own fuel.
  • You are responsible for the purity of you fuel source.

Can I convert a gas engine?

  • NO, I’m sorry, you can’t. You can only convert a diesel engine over to run on waste cooking oil.

How quickly is the pay back

  • The payback will differ depending on your vehicle, I’ve converted VW Jettas that get 48 MPG up to larger trucks (like the F250) and (Dodge 1 ton) that get 13-15 MPG. A good understanding of your payback is how much the out-the-door cost is, minus the number of miles you have driven on waste vegetable oil (WVO).
  • If you collect your own WVO you only need to pay the government 24.4 cents if you drive your vehicle in the United States. This is your federal road tax. IT SHOULD BE PAID. The government uses that money to pay for roads and bridges. Contact your tax professional for tax advice.

What is the cost?

Grease Kit plus installation inlcudes the following :

  • Upgraded fuel lines to Viton
  • Replaced plastic hose in hose system with aluminum
  • Tank of used cooking oil
  • Flat plate heat exchanger
  • Full insulation on system
  • $3000 Cars
  • $3500/ 4000 Trucks

How long will it take to convert my vehicle?

  • 5 days, Clients drop the vehicle off on Monday and I return it to them on Friday Locale Austin pick up and drop off is available at no charge. The vehicle will be under USAA insurance and will have Full Coverage in my care.

Will a Grease kit fuel system reduce emissions?

  • Yes, you will not find any sulfur content in used cooking oil which eliminates a major carcinogen associated with diesel fuel. Vegetable oil is from vegetables that absorb more carbon dioxide from the air when it grows.
  • Vegetable fuels are less toxic to people and the environment.

Where do I get used cooking oil from?

  • Most clients get their used cooking oil from local restaurants that they like to eat at, filter the oil and dewater the oil. Most restaurants are happy to give their oil away to a customer. Some restaurants are paying to have it disposed of and some are getting paid for oil disposal.
